    History

Deeg’s judicial history traces back to the princely state era, with formal courts emerging around 1855 under British influence, establishing magistrates and a district structure, including Deeg and Bharatpur; pre-1855 justice involved rulers’ military governors (faujdars) handling local law & order, evolving into a system with Nizamat courts, Tehsil courts, and later Munsif courts, with Deeg functioning as a key administrative & judicial hub for the Bharatpur State.

    Early Era (Pre-1855)

Mughal Influence: Before regular courts, rulers like Maharaja Suraj Mal used military governors (faujdars) in forts like Deeg to manage law and order, suppressing bandits and trying serious crimes.

Jat Rulers: Deeg served as the first capital of the Jat rulers, with military officers maintaining justice in their areas.

    Formalization of Courts (Post-1855)

Introduction of Regular Courts: In 1855, Major Morrison, Political Agent, established judicial departments, creating magistrates in Deeg and Bharatpur, marking the beginning of modern courts.

District Structure: The Bharatpur State was divided into districts, with Deeg and Bharatpur having Nazims (administrators) in charge.

Princely State Judiciary (Late 19th – Early 20th Century)

Hierarchy: The judicial system included the Council (highest court), Sessions Judge at Bharatpur, and Nizamat Courts at Bharatpur, Deeg, and Bayana.

Tehsil & Munsif Courts: Tehsil courts operated in Deeg, Bharatpur, etc., with Munsif (subordinate judge) courts established in Deeg and Bharatpur by 1935-36.
